| Breastfeeding is part of your relationship with your baby. But it is also a learned skill. If you grew up watching women breastfeed, you probably know how it works. In places where breastfeeding is the norm, no one has to go to a class or read a book. But if you did not see breastfeeding during your growing up years, you may have some things to learn. |
 |
| LEARN FROM OTHER MOTHERS |
One of the best ways to learn is from other mothers. Visit La Leche League International for details on mothers' groups that meet in your area. When you go to those meetings, you can learn from other mothers while you watch breastfeeding in action. This is a great way to learn what you need to know. |

| LEARN BY READING |
| Check out Ameda's many articles on this site. There are also some great books for parents. Here are a few: |
 |
- Breastfeeding Made Simple by Nancy Mohrbacher, IBCLC and Kathleen Kendall-Tackett PhD, IBCLC
- The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League International
- Bestfeeding by Mary Renfrew, Chloe Fisher, and Suzanne Arms

| LEARN AT A BREASTFEEDING CLASS |
| Many hospitals and doctors' offices offer breastfeeding classes. If you can, try to take a class while you're pregnant. Learning the basics of breastfeeding before birth can help you avoid common problems. Check your local hospital and healthcare provider's office for classes near you. |
 |
| This is general information and does not replace the advice of your physician or healthcare provider. If you have a problem you cannot solve quickly, seek help right away. |
 |
Every baby is different, and your baby may not be average. If in doubt, contact your physician or other healthcare provider. |
