PhD, RN, IBCLC is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Division of General Academic Pediatrics. Before obtaining IBCLC certification in 2010, she worked clinically as a staff nurse on a mother-baby unit for five years. Dr. Demirci received her PhD in 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Her dissertation was a qualitative grounded theory study investigating breastfeeding establishment and maternal role acquisition in mothers of late preterm infants. Her clinical and research interests involve breastfeeding issues of late preterm mother-infant dyads, perceived insufficient milk supply management and “diagnosis,” and perceptual and communication -related barriers to breastfeeding continuation and exclusivity. She is currently conducting a pilot study comparing the effect of meditation versus an herbal supplement on the perception of insufficient milk supply in mothers of late preterm and early term infants.
